Nancy Oliveri is an American artist born in Providence Rhode Island,1958. She has exhibited her work extensively in juried group and solo shows in the US as well as internationally including Budapest, Berlin, Barcelona and Argentina. Her work has been acknowledged by the Julia Margaret Cameron and Pollux Award Competitions among others. Mackerel is from series of of photographic Still Lifes inspired by 16th Century Dutch and Flemish still life paintings, Memento Mori, and the tradition of Vanitas. She began this series following a year long project photographing wildlife and contamination in the Gowanus Canal, New York City where she has a home and studio.
